The course curricula are entirely based on published textbook material and adjusted to the student's personal goals. The final exam consists of several 20 to 35 pages reports based on each of the textbooks listed in the program.

Master /MBA

The Master's degree program provides students with a specialized training in a field of study, or major. Students acquire practical knowledge and specific skills in courses related directly to the student's concentration. The specialized and practical training that BIU offers through the Master's program has become almost compulsory at the workplace. This is the reason why alternative education programs enjoy so much popularity in the corporate world. The course curricula are based on published textbook material and a research project. The final exam consists of several 20 to 35 pages reports based on each of the textbooks listed in the program. In addition, the Master's candidate has to submit a 50 page project paper.

Doctorate/ Ph.D.

The doctorate program offers students the highest level of specialization in any discipline. Students acquire highly specialized knowledge and full command of specific skills that they will apply and develop in arguing and defending their culminating work: the doctoral thesis. Most of the credits earned at the doctorate level come from the thesis itself. The final requirement consists in submitting a 70 page thesis paper for review and evaluation by BIU authorities. Several 20 to 35 pages reports based on textbooks listed in the program may also be required. In some cases, previously published material can be counted towards the degree.

The Institute of Financial Consultants (IFC) - USA

The Institute of Financial Consultants (IFC) is an international professional organization with a worldwide membership.

The Institute is registered with the National Certification Commission, USA

IFC offers an educational program leading to the designation of Certified Financial Consultant (CFC) issued to qualified graduates. The Institute is multidisciplinary, drawing its members from the related but separate fields of accountancy, insurance, law, funds management, tax and pensions. The Institute is forging a "new" profession that adopts the best features from these related professions and encourages the development of members' qualifications as financial consultants on the basis of their current professional qualifications.

Financial consultants provide advice to clients in a wide variety of situations from the financial planner advising individual clients on investments to those working as corporate financial officer, portfolio manager, security analyst and investment banker in organizations as diverse as brokerage firms, mutual funds, banks, trust companies, corporate finance departments, insurance companies and other financial management firms.

Association of Financial Planner - UK

The Association of Financial Planners is a professional body for those committed to the development of the multidisciplinary profession of financial planning.

Its mission is to develop and promote the profession of financial planning to the public and to those people involved in providing advice and guidance to their clients, in order to most effectively fulfill every client’s financial and life style objectives.

The Association of Financial Planning was established to promote the profession and principal of Financial Planning. Members and Fellows of the Association are entitled to use the designator letters MAFP and FAFP.

The financial planner's area of expertise is in analyzing clients' objectives and applying a comprehensive approach, in prudently preparing financial plans rather than in promote financial products.

In carrying out this task, one financial planner may be more knowledgeable in a part field than another and therefore recognizes the need to consult planners competent in other disciplines as well as members of other professions.

What is Financial Planning?

Financial planning is a professional service for individuals, their families and their businesses who need objective assistance in organizing their financial affairs to achieve their objectives.

A Financial Planner strives to help his or her clients define, review and attain their financial objectives, with less risk and cost than if they attempted it themselves. Typically the Financial Planner will follow the Financial Planning Process.

A typical Financial Plan will analyze the client goals and objectives and make specific recommendations on some or, often, all of the following:

A Financial Planner, aware of the way changes in one area will effect others, the overall needs of his or her client. The complexity of such a task calls for very broad knowledge and resources on the planner's part and a personal on going client relationship to modify the plan as changing circumstances demand.

 

Membership and Educational Program :

To satisfy the educational component prospective member needs to submit a maximum 15,000 word dissertation or a consulting project on an approved topic. On completion of the education program a certificate in Financial Planning will be awarded.

Applicants for Membership must also satisfy the following requirements:

-         Demonstrate comprehension of the day-to-day application of the principles of the financial planning profession.

-         Have three years of financial planning practice experience.

-         Agree to abide by the AFP Code of Ethics

Demonstrate knowledge of the core areas of the financial planning profession through the attainment of an acceptable professional designation.




Chartered Association of Business Administrators (CABA)

Chartered Association of Business Administrators (CABA) is a not-for-profit professional body chartered federally under Letters Patent granted by the Government of Canada.

Members who successfully complete the Association's educational program and acquire three years of experience in business management are granted the right to use the designation CBA (Chartered Business Admininistrator). The Association issues a certificate of Chartered Business Administrator to members who complete all the requirements.

CABA is committed to the highest professional competence and ethical standards for the business consulting profession. Members of the Association must at all times comply with the content and spirit of the Association's Code of Ethics.

Certificate of Chartered Business Administrators remain the property of the Association and shall be returned on demand. A member may withdraw from the Association at any time by writing to the Association's Board of Directors and returning the Certificate of Chartered Business Administrator.

To study for graduate certificate/diploma a candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree or it’s equivalent professional qualification. A copy of the candidate’s diploma, transcripts, or other written proof of completion of a degree/professional qualification program must accompany the candidate’s application. In exceptional circumstances work experience may be substituted for an appropriate degree or professional qualification.

For single subject certification there is no minimum education requirement.


The Institute of Accounting Technicians (IAT)

The IAT is chartered federally under letters patent granted by the federal government of Canada and is a not-for-profit professional body for accounting technicians. Employed in all sectors of the economy, this large strata of individuals makes a significant contribution to the efficiency of any business.

In addition to representing members' interest through advocacy, IAT helps individual develop their skills and provides tools and resources to facilitate career development. IAT also seeks to assist employers improve the productivity and cost effectiveness of Certified Accounting Technicians employees, and contribute to enhancing the efficiency of the broader economic environment.

Practical Experience - What is Required?

 

What is it?

Whilst success in the examinations provides evidence of your academic accounting abilities, a period of practical experience is necessary to ensure that you have the necessary hands on skill to apply the knowledge you have gained in a real life setting.

The requirement to complete a period of practical experience therefore needs to be met prior to being awarded Certified Accounting Technician designation.

 

Where can it be obtained?

The experience can be obtained in a variety of business settings - in industry, or private or public sector companies regardless of their size. Practical experience gained in a self employed situation is also valid.

When can it be completed?

The three-year period of practical experience required to qualify as a Certified Accounting Technician can be undertaken before, after or during the period of study for the examinations.

How is it documented?

Students will be provided with a document for recording the practical experience they undertake. Full information on relevant employment history and accounting experience gained should then be submitted with an application for certification at the end of the relevant period.

Previous qualifications may also entitle you to claim exemption from the practical experience requirement. All these qualifications are evaluated individually.

AT Course Outline

IAT students represent a wide range of backgrounds; from school leavers to those already working in accounts but seeking a formal qualification. The course is available by distance learning worldwide.

Entry routes to IAT are:

School Leaving Certificate. Passes must be obtained in English and at least one subject from mathematics or accountancy. Certificates/Diplomas in accounting, management or business administration. Professional Qualifications or Degrees in any field

Mature Students. Intending students over 21 years of age and experience rather than educational background.

The qualification consists of the following papers:

Examinations

There is no restriction to the number of exams you may attempt, allowing you to chose to sit as many or as few papers as you like at each exam session. Papers can be taken in any order to suit your own career or study needs. There is no time limit for exam completion. The exams can be attempted twice a year in June and December.
